Egypt Erupting

From 25th Jan this year, the erupting was taken place in the capital and other places of Egypt. It is reported that this erupting is the biggest one since 1977. In 1977, people in Egypt come to the street for the shortage of food.
This year, people get together again to fight for poverty, corruption, unemployment and harassment, this is the hope of Egyptian who have posted it on the Facebook and Twitter. Protestors want to organize this movement via Facebook and Twitter, they want to get it out of the country. Now, the government of Egypt has shutted down Twitter, although local people can not access the Internet. It is said that the Internet company in Egypt also shutted down the whole net, except only one-Vodafone.
The protestor select the 25th Jan, because this day is the "policeman day" in Egypt. People claimed that they wanted to change "policeman day" into "revolution day". They were begging the President of Egypt to be fired.
This movement occured in peaceful, however, it became worse than worse, 3 people were killed in this movement. The Internation community has paid much attention to this issue. Secretary of State Hillary has addressed that she appeal to people can calm down with the Egypt government.

How Facebook Could Reach $125 Billion

How Facebook Could Reach $125 Billion

Signatures of Facebook’s first 200 employees on a framed poster.
First look at the news and you can see my view about that:
Now that Facebook has raised a $1.5 billion financing round, led by Goldman Sachs, its new investors are waiting for their fortunes to multiply.
While some critics remain skeptical that Facebook — which is said to have made about $2 billion in revenue last year — is worth the round’s $50 billion valuation, momentum is certainly on the company’s side.
Shares of Facebook are still soaring in the secondary market. The company’s shares are trading at an implied valuation of $76 billion, according to Sharespost. For the biggest Facebook bulls, the next number to contemplate is $100 billion.
According to a new report by the financial research firm Trefis, that is certainly possible.
Trefis currently puts Facebook’s worth at a (relatively) modest $45 billion, but the firm says there are four likely developments that could push the social network’s value to $125 billion: a doubling of ad revenue per page; page views increase by 50 percent; Facebook’s share of the search market hits 10 percent; a doubling of game revenue per user.
The co-founder of Trefis, Cem Ozkaynak, says Facebook is still far off the mark, but he says recent moves by the company are moving the needle on user interaction.
“It’s introducing more ads on its pages, changing the profile page design to emphasize photos that can lead to more page views and integrating Web search results within Facebook search results, changes that improve the likelihood that our scenarios on page views per user and search market share are plausible,” he said.
Not bad for a start-up company that went from the dorm room to billion-dollar funding rounds in seven short years.

My view:

The facebook is a kind of communication tool for us now. We can find people that we may lose touch for a couple of years. It is very convenient for us to keep in touch with friends. Besides, you can make new friends on it. We can share everything we want to inform the people and exchange our ideas.

There is no doubt that the Facebook brings a huge profit to the company. Now, facebook worth at a modest $45 billion, the profit will still increase. The founder will take actions to move the needle on user interaction. This movement will be able to add more profits for the founder, from my view, user interaction is very important for us to use this communication tool. If some changes occur on user interaction, it will be good for user and firm.

User is not the passive role in the media. In the media world, we can give the feedback and opinion to the founders so that they can change their way to attract more attention from the public. What's more, the user will get more benefits from those changes. What can we do about it is to participate media. It will be helpful for us to live better.

How The iPhone Figures In The U.S.-China Trade Gap

Trade will be one of the big issues when President Obama and Chinese President Hu Jintao sit down to talk this week. The U.S. trade deficit with China is large and growing. But the numbers don't tell the whole story.
The Apple iPhone is an iconic American product, invented, designed and sold by a California company. But when trade figures are tallied, the iPhone is counted as a Chinese import. That means every iPhone sold here makes the U.S. trade deficit with China grow.
The iPhone is made up of hundreds of individual parts. Those components are made in the U.S., South Korea, Japan and many other places. But they are assembled into an iPhone in a factory in China.

Few if any of the important parts are actually made in China, but when the U.S. counts imports, it uses the fully assembled wholesale value of a product.
Mark Doms, the chief economist at the Commerce Department, acknowledges this approach has limitations but says there really isn't any other way to do it. "There's really no practical way to ask companies to break out the value of the goods by country of origin for all the individual components," he says. "That just isn't very feasible."
Instead, the total wholesale value of the iPhone — for the 3G model it was about $180 — goes on the Chinese import side of the trade ledger. As a result, says economist Rob Feenstra of the University of California, Davis, "The U.S. trade deficit with China tends to be exaggerated."

Planet Money

Right now that annual trade deficit is more than $275 billion. How much of it can be traced to the iPhone?
In a much-talked-about paper, Chinese economist Yuqing Xing took a stab at the figure. "If you look at the manufacturing costs, China's contribution is $6.50."
He says that figure represents the actual cost of assembling each iPhone. And he concludes that if that number were used instead of the entire wholesale cost, the U.S. trade deficit with China would shrink by roughly $2 billion.
Some economists dispute his figures, but there's little doubt that the real trade deficit with China is less than the number that shows up in the headlines.
Doms acknowledges that but adds that even if you strip away the inflated value of some Chinese imports, it won't change the fundamental fact: The U.S. trade deficit with China is increasing.

wall-street-journal-verizon-to-announce-its-getting-iphone

Could it be? The iPhone on Verizon?
Could it be? The iPhone on Verizon?
Today, Verizon Wireless sent out unexpected invitations to a red carpet event at the Lincoln Center in New York on Tuesday. Now, The Wall Street Journal is reporting that after years of waiting, Apple is finally breaking its monagomous relationship with AT&T and is introducing the iPhone on the Verizon network. The paper reports:
[The move will] upend the balance of power in the industry, ending Verizon rival AT&T Inc.'s exclusive hold on the device and leaving smaller players like Sprint Nextel Corp. and T-Mobile USA facing two well-capitalized competitors offering the world's most popular smartphone.
It wasn't immediately clear when Verizon would have the device in stores.
The Verizon phone will be similar to the iPhone 4 but run on the carrier's CDMA technology, people familiar with the matter have said.
Now, we have to warn that the iPhone-on-Verizon rumor has been one of the most persistent over the past two years. In fact, The Wall Street Journal reported back in October that Verizon would have the iPhone by the end of 2010. In some ways, the rumor has become a piece of American mythology.
That said, after the Journal's report, the web's been playing a game of piecing together hints. The New York Times' Bits blog puts them all together:
A reporter for The Loop, a Web site dedicated to Apple news, was invited. Another Apple news site reports that employees of Verizon stores have been told to attend mandatory training sessions later this month for “an iconic pre-order.” And BoyGeniusReport, a gadget site, reports that Apple retail store employees have been barred from taking vacation in early February.
